The UK-wide search for the best 'away from home' toilets - the
much sought after 'Loo of the Year Awards' - has just been launched
by competition organisers - The British Toilet Association.
Now in their seventeenth year, the Loo of the Year Awards have
eighteen different categories, covering every type of location used
by staff, members of the public or visitors - including offices,
schools, hospitals, pubs, shops and, of course, public toilets provided
by Local Authorities. East Lothian Council in Scotland was last
year's overall winner.
The 2003 Awards are sponsored by washroom hygiene specialists,
Cannon Hygiene, who also sponsor the Attendant of the Year Awards,
for full time attended toilets, along with SCA Hygiene Products,
Europe's largest tissue manufacturer, Technical Concepts, providers
of the Neutralle brand of washroom aircare and hand washing products
and Unger, suppliers of specially designed washroom cleaning systems.
Further support comes, as in previous years, from the four national
tourism bodies in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
"We're delighted to receive additional backing for the Loo
of the Year Awards" quotes BTA Director, Richard Chisnell,
"since it reflects the growing importance attached to this
very popular Awards scheme and allows us to cater for the continuing
increase in the numbers of entries received each year. More providers
are recognising the marketing power of their loos, which proves
that well managed loos are not just welcomed by customers - they're
also good for business".
There are separate Awards for the best accessible and babychanging
facilities, as well as Attendants and cleaning staff.
Anyone can nominate any number of 'away from home' loos - staff,
customers, owners or visitors, via the Loo of the Year Awards nomination
hotline (01962 850277) by fax (01962 870220) or on-line via the
Awards website www.loo.co.uk.
Closing date for entries is 31st July and Award winners are announced
in November. All entries receive an unannounced inspection visit
and a subsequent one through five star grading, based on a wide
range of judging criteria, including décor, cleanliness,
functional equipment and overall management.
