The Camping and Caravanning Club have won the ultimate accolade – the 2006 Loo of the Year Awards Overall Winner’s Trophy, at the UK National Awards Presentation Ceremony held at The National Motor Cycle Museum, near Birmingham on Friday 8th December.
“This is the first year since the annual competition to find the best places to ‘go’ in Britain was introduced in 1987 that our Holiday Parks category has received the top Award” quotes the UK Awards Director, Richard Chisnell. “Holiday and camping or caravan parks now account for over 20% of our 1000 + entries each year and the standards of facilities being provided in these important holiday locations are normally excellent, reflecting the providers’ desire to impress both new and regular customers”.
Over 1100 individual entries were received in the 2006 competition across the fifty five different entry categories from all parts of the UK.
Other major Trophy winners were: The Alnwick Garden, Northumberland (individual categories); the multi-storey car park, Leighton Buzzard (public toilet categories); Moto Hospitality (corporate provider entries); Andy Mobile Loos, Worcestershire (accessible toilets) and Applegarth, Northallerton (babychange facilities).
Attendant of the Year Trophies – for the cleaning staff who look after ‘away from home’ toilets were: Festival Place Shopping Centre, Basingstoke (individual attendant team); Staffordshire County Council (in-house cleaning team) and Danfo UK (external contractor team).
In addition to the nine overall Trophy winners, a total of 119 National Awards were won by entries from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, along with twenty Local Authority Awards for public toilet providers – ‘The Premier League’ and thirteen Standards of Excellence Awards for providers winning five or more five Star Awards – ‘The Champions League’.
Eight special ‘Changing Places’ Awards were also presented to providers of changing facilities for children or adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities and other disabled people who require height adjustable changing benches and hoists.
The 2006 Awards were sponsored by leading washroom service supplier, Initial Washroom Solutions, together with Armitage Shanks, Technical Concepts and The British Cleaning Council. The Awards were also supported by the national tourism bodies in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
