World Water Day - 22 March 2010
"When the well is dry, we learn the worth of water."
– Benjamin Franklin, Poor Richard’s Almanac
Today is World Water Day – a day celebrated since way back in 1993 by the UN to basically state what you already know: human beings cannot live without water. Obviously, right? Yet one billion people on our planet don’t have access to clean water; a tragedy which contributes to disease and death.
Water is also crucial to good sanitation. Together, a lack of access to water and sanitation is killing 4,000 children every day.
But let’s not get bogged down in the sad news, but take action. We are using this World Water Day to raise awareness about the importance of water, and to urge politicians from across the globe to take a stand for access to sanitation and clean water.
Show politicians you care about water and sanitation by taking part of the Guinness World Record attempt to form the World’s Longest Toilet Queue http://cts.vresp.com/c/?WorldToiletOrganizat/8589ec5123/8632c9bcff/53c958cf5b
