Loughborough Public Conveniences

Shoppers, businesses and visitors in Loughborough are being asked for their views on the future of public toilet provision in the town centre.

Charnwood Borough Council is launching a questionnaire, both in the town centre and online, to gather public opinion over the next three weeks.

The questionnaire, which will be available from Monday, August 23, is part of the councils bid to find alternative ways of providing public toilets.

Councillor Mike Preston, Charnwood Borough Councils leader, said: As we have already said, we are very eager to hear what people think about what we should do with public toilets.
We are a listening council and take the views and needs of people very seriously indeed.

This questionnaire will form part of the wider consultation about what type of service we could provide in Loughborough in future and I would urge anyone with an interest to take part and ensure we have as many views represented as possible.

The councils cabinet last week approved a proposal to speak to businesses about signing up to the Community Toilet Scheme in which they would provide public toilet facilities instead of the local authority.

The meeting also looked at devolving ownership or leasehold and management responsibility to parish, and town councils and other organisations.

The move is designed to provide long-term savings to the council while maintaining a high standard of public toilet provision in the Borough.

The questionnaire will be available at Loughborough Town Hall and outside public toilets in the town centre, and will also be available online at www.charnwood.gov.uk, until Friday, September 10.
