BTA assist Bromsgrove Council with new toilets

BROMSGROVE bus station and the surrounding area will undergo development work over the next three months in the latest step by the district council to regenerate the town centre.

The improvement work, which includes refurbishing the public conveniences, associated disabled car parking access and landscaping of the surrounding area, is under way and due to be completed by the end of July 2009.

Work is well under way on the new toilets with its high dependency unit at the bus station. The facility was designed in consultation with the British Toilet Association (BTA). The toilets are planned for entry into the national Loo of the Year awards – a scheme that has encouraged the highest possible standards in all types of ‘away from home’ or public toilets since 1987. Kevin Dicks, the acting joint chief executive of Bromsgrove and Redditch councils, said: “In consultation many people told us they weren’t satisfied with the bus station or the toilets and that they also wanted to see the brook re-landscaped with additional planting.

“The work you will see taking place is a result of that consultation.” Mr Dicks added: “As a part of the overall plan to develop public facilities in Bromsgrove, we hope that spending money to revamp the bus station area will benefit residents and encourage more people to visit.”
