BTA Corporate Champion Danfo provide state of the art toilet in Fordingbridge
Building works to upgrade the outdated public conveniences, situated in Fordingbridge's town centre car park, into a modern toilet block, are now complete.
New Forest District Council and Fordingbridge Town Council agreed that the existing building, which is structurally sound and in keeping with the local community, should be retained; and the internal facilities replaced with a new Swedish design utilising state-of-the-art equipment, which has been so successful in other parts of the country.
The new facilities provide five independent cubicles, each with their own door from outside and containing a hand basin and toilet. An additional toilet cubicle for people with disabilities, and baby changing, has also been included in the build.
The toilets have been designed to ensure that high levels of cleanliness can be maintained, and problems with anti-social behaviour can be reduced. It is expected that the design of the facility will offer a reduction in the council's expenditure on cleansing.
Councillor Edward Heron, New Forest District Council's portfolio holder for environment, said: "I am grateful for the hard work of all my colleagues on the project board, which is made up of members and officers of the district and town council, who have ensured that we have chosen a design that is in keeping with the town.
"I hope that the new design can be used as a model for similar projects in the future."
